OUR BELOVED MOTHER BURMAH VICTORIA FLOWERSSunrise: May 14, 1937Sunset : Jan. 25, 2012This eulogy is dedicated to family, relatives, and very close friends who knew my mother intimately.Our Mom Burmah Flowers, for those of us who knew her well, was a woman of class, integrity, strength and great faith. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gillett on May 14, 1937 in Crooked Tree Village, Belize. The third eldest of 10 children, she helped raise her younger brothers and sisters, at the same time that she helped her parents along on their land.She attended college, pursuing a degree in Education and thereafter becoming a teacher in a school in Belize City; eventually working her way up to an Assistant Principal. Students and fellow teachers alike were very fond of her because of her magnificent personality. She was caring, giving, understanding and loving. My Mom taught in Belize City for a couple of years. She then decided to move to the United States to raise her family as a single parent. This was the beginning of many hardships. She toiled and worked very hard, taking her first job working as a clothing seamstress in a factory. There were instances where Mom would only have bread and water for lunch in order to save money for us. One day, she came across a nice gentleman who encouraged her to try for a position at the D’ Agostinos supermarket; she applied and got the job in 1976, permanently working there until her retirement. Mom suffered her first stroke on February 21, 2001 which only affected her left peripheral vision. She decided to work for a few more years finally retiring in 2007. At first, she was bored but later on she began to enjoy her free time.On January 7, 2010 Mom suffered a second stroke which this time became more severe, paralyzing her entire left side, affecting her vision and losing her ability to swallow. It was at this moment in time that we, her children, realized she would never be the same. Released from the hospital and transferred to a Nursing Home for rehabilitation, she never once gave up as she fought to walk. The physical therapists did all they could, but in-spite of their efforts, Mom was unable to recover. She was eventually released from the Rehabilitation and then went on to live with my brother, where my sisters and I took turns caring for her. Mom then developed a cough that would not go away; she was later diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia. However, after performing a CATSCAN, the doctors discovered she had two lumps in her right lung.On January 25, experiencing breathing problems, Mom passed away that very night. She leaves behind her four children: Jason Alfred Flowers, Sharlene Victoria Flowers, Rema Elvina Flowers and myself, Nadia Elaine Vales; her siblings Gwenyth Tillet, George Gillett (deceased), Elistine Tillet, Donald Gillett, Jennifer Wilkerson, Edwin Gillett (deceased) and Stephen Gillett, plus numerous cousins, relatives and intimate close friends.Mom, you were so dear to our hearts. You will be greatly missed. We love you and will cherish you all the days of our lives. Rest in peace, Mom, you will have no more pain and suffering. You have been set free. Love You.Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2010 at Community Worship Center-Church of the Nazarene at 117 Madison St, Brooklyn, New York, 11216. The Rev. IN LOVING MEMORY OF ELSWITH RHABURN ESTELLEDeath is nothing else but going home to God, the bond of love will be unbroken for all eternity........Mother TeresaIt’s with deep regret that we the Estell family announce the death of our beautiful mother Elswith Berthamae Rhaburn Estell.I know everyone tends to say all the best things about their mom but our mom was genuinely a humble, sweet, giving, honest and simply pure of heart, don’t get me wrong she had an edge to her where you messed with one of her own she would snap at you in a flash) but it was just the MOTHER GENE in her. My heart aches at our loss of our AWESOME mom, but I also want to acknowledge that she was also a sister, aunt, grandmother, neighbor, and really wonderful friend. I learned quite a few things about my mom with our last quality time we spent together over this past holiday that I will hold dearly.......my mom was funny as hell and love to find the laugh in every situation.She had this look she would give you if she was trying to make fun of something or someone----yes someone----we all do it so don’t pretend you don’t {laugh} but she did it in a very jovial way as a mockery rather than a make fun of.Funeral service will be held in Ladyville at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 5th, at the Ladyville Baptist Church.Burial will be in Crooked Tree Village where here late parents, James & Winnefred Rhaburn were laid to rest.Following the funeral service buses will be leaving for Crooked Tree Village where the burial sermon will be conducted by Pastor Maurice Westby.Elswith Estell is survived by her husband Dudley Estell, daughters Yvette Halliday{wife of Henry Halliday}; Rowena Estell and Trisha Estell of Chicago, Ill, Sherria (Betty} Estell, Keishalyn Estell & Starlee Estell.Grand-children: Tyronne Fuentes, Shauntice Martin, Ellsworth Sutherland JR., LeeShawn Gordon, James Halliday & Oren Humes.Siblings: Ionie Wright, Evan Rhaburrn, Norma Gillett, Wincy Rhaburn, Bernice Sutherland, Elswith Estell, James Rhaburn III, Genevieve Comber, Maridell and Faye Rhaburn.

Mein I just can't believe this! When I went toBelize for the Easter tour this year I made my usual trip to Orange Walk to visit all my friends and John-John was the first house I stopped. We sat and drank for like two hours together, talked and joked around; he was telling me how he use to lash me in class for being bad and we laugh about it. It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Mavis Brown Tillett of Crooked Tree Village. Today, at 5:00am she made her transition to her heavenly home. Mrs. Mavis Brown Tillett was 86 years old. She was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital yesterday where she died; her transition was peaceful. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. |

I used to live with Celia and Hector Wade for almost a year when I was working at the Police Station on Queen Street and they used to live on Daly Street. Celia was kind to me and always have some good food when we got home for midday dinner. On the 15th and ending of the month when we get paid she would always have something special to eat. I remember Janet and Maureen when they were little girls in the house with us. Celia loved to go the market really early in the morning to get fresh meat and vegetables. I remember when Hector got her a fridge and she would still get up early and Hector would say that was why he got her a fridge so that she don't have to get up early but Ms Celia wants to get her fresh meat everyday. Ms. Loleen is pre-deceased by her common-law-husband Randolph Cadle, Sr., and her sons Alvan Rhaburn and Lester Cadle. She will be mourned by her children Urvilla Rhaburn Kelly, Iris Rhaburn, Calvin, Randolph, Jr, Ruth, Cherry, Glenford, Dean and Rayford Cadle; step-children Daphne Cadle Morris, Gladston and Alvin Cadle. Miss Diane was my host mother this past summer. I lived with her and Derrick for two weeks. Diane was always the "cool mom". The other kids would come over to our house to watch TV and eat her "real American" peanut butter. Diane always kept her door open to friends and visitors. I feel so blessed that I was able to spend so much time with Diane. It's hard to believe that she is gone, and my heart goes out to Big Tess, Tess, Shanda, and little Derrick. Words cannot begin to explain the grief that is being felt not only in Belize, but also the U.S. for the loss of Diane. Diane was like a cool older sister to me. She got me hooked on watching Days and Passions. We would laugh at how simple Passions was but wouldn't miss Ethan and Theresa for the world. That was like my second home when we were in Belize especially when we were smaller. We would spend the summer with my dad and stay by Diane and Tes. She showed us how to wash on a scrub board and told us when we go bathe "mek sure you schroochie you panty". Aye those were the days. I'm gonna miss you Diane. I won't be able to attend the funeral but keep in mind I'm there in spirit. I wish I could be there for my cousins. I wish Derrick didn't have to deal with this. He's only 8 and my oldest is 8 and I can't come close to imagine what that must feel like. It is with deepest sympathy that we all join together to mourn the loss of a great daughter of Crooked Tree Village, a loving person Diane who has departed ahead of us to be with the Lord. She died as she lived, always seeking to help others and that is what she was seeking to do when she heard of an accident involving four youngsters from Crooked Tree who overturned in a car near lemonal, while she was watching the game between Bermudian Landing/Crooked Tree in Landing yesterday. I spoke to her and Lolette moments before who was also in the vehicle with her at the time of the accident and Diane was so relaxed and said that she would watch the second half of the game just from the shade of a parked vehicle. She was so supportive of the Cricket team and the last thing she did was to purchase some water for the guys of the team. My son John , along with three other persons were in his vehicle just behind them about 30 seconds, but out of sight with the same objective of helping out the youngsters when they were devastated when pulling around a curve to see the terrible accident. Luckily they were there, and could have helped to remove Lolette who was trapped or it could have been much more serious for her likewise. As I rushed to the scene of the accident, and viewed the body of Diane, and saw the condition of other occupants of the vehicle, and the pain they were going through my heart ached to observe such a situation. My mind reflected on the words of James : For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time , and then vanisheth away. We also wish Lolette and Shanda a speedy recovery and let the entire Family know that the Lord will be with them in this extremely difficult period and always and he will direct their paths. Tes and family , Charro/ Gloria, and Family be strong in this difficult period and place all you trust in God, acknowledge him and he will direct all you steps. We are all with you. They were selected as two of 10 students from participating Alliance High Schools in Los Angeles, California to visit the White House on February 18, 2010. I am Tricia Jones the daughter of Landy Jones. I just want to say on behalf of my mom Rosita Jones, my sister Ivy Jones and my brother Landy Jones Jr. that we loved and miss our Uncle Vincent a lot. We use to stay at his home whenever we visited Crooked Tree. As humbled as their home was, it always felt like a palace. All the good food my Aunt Magret made. Just a couple of weeks ago I visited Ramona in Chicago and we remebered the wonderfull time we had when we were in Crooked Tree. He just made us laugh all the time with his crazy jokes. I last saw my uncle when he visited me in Los Angeles and as usual always would tell me that I was his favorite niece. I know he tell all of his niece the same thing, but that was my Uncle Vincent for you. He always wanted everyone to feel special. I know all his family and friends were special to him and he showed it everytime you are around him. I love and will miss him daily for he will remain alive in my heart. My sympathies goes out to the Tillett family on the passing of my cousin "Uncle Dan". Dan was partly raised by my parents and he and Rudy grew up as brothers. Dan loved to read his books especially western. Whenever he is in Crooked Tree you could always find him in house reading. My sympathy goes especially to Miss Molly who was always at his side, to Jessie Tillett Crawford and her family and to Donald Jr. "Bleedy" and his family. To Chad and Ron who loved spending time with their grand-father at the camp. Hello Friends & Family Thank you for the prayers and the faith that we have in God for guiding our little boy back home. We were schedule to have his surgery on September 3 and a hospital stay of 5 day. But unfortunately it turned into four surgeries and a one month 3 days stay in the hostipal. AJ is at home and recovering nicely with the grace of God. He is moving around and eating more everyday. He is getting back to himself, hopefully he will be able to start school next month, he is missing his friends. Thank you Selvin, Orpha, Errol, Tamara, Alexander "AJ", Dana, Adam, Timmie, Ashia and the rest of our family. |
